Notify the DVLA immediately
Until the DVLA records the change, you remain the registered keeper and are legally responsible for the vehicle. Notification can be done online and is confirmed by email straight away. We complete this for every van we buy and send you the confirmation.
Which part of the V5C goes where
For a sale to a motor trader or dismantler, the trade section of the V5C is completed and you keep your acknowledgement slip. For destruction at an ATF, the yellow section is used and you should receive a Certificate of Destruction.
If the V5C is missing
You can still sell. Apply for a replacement V5C from the DVLA, or tell us and we will explain the alternative route. Never let anyone take a van without paperwork being handled properly.
Road tax and insurance
Vehicle tax is not transferred with the vehicle. Once the DVLA is notified of the sale, any full remaining months are refunded automatically to the registered keeper. Cancel your insurance only after collection has taken place.
Keeping a private plate
Retain or transfer the registration with the DVLA before the vehicle is collected. Once it has gone, recovering the plate becomes much harder.
